"First pair infantry type boots, 12” high, black leather, surprisingly large with typical Civil War square toes. Constructed with a two-piece upper with vertical seam on each side, running from the front heel to top. Lined with brown leather and complete with leather pull straps attached inside. Leather heels and soles are wooden pegged and show wear, but are not worn through. G overall. Second pair a non-regulation pattern, 14” high, of black leather in larger size with typical square toes. Three piece uppers are made with a separate 6” piece of softer leather at the front/top section. This piece rises slightly in the front to form a rounded crest. These sections are more worn and wrinkled than the rest of the boots. The rest of the leather is strong, just showing honest wear and use. Pieces of fabric pull straps remain stitched inside boot tops. The leather heels are nailed, while the soles are stitched. One boot has been half-soled to repair a worn spot. There is a 1" crack across the vamp of one boot, about G overall. Oral provenance relates that these were worn by a Michigan soldier. A difficult uniform item to find in authentic condition." -cowanauctions.com
