Nelson Mandela's ostrich derby shoes

Nelson Mandela's ostrich skin shoes were sold in 1995 at Christie's London for 7,200 $. Mandela wore then when he walked to freedom from Robben Island Prison in 1990 after 27 years incarceration.The auction intended to raise money for Nelson Mandela Children's Fund and British Shoe Corp's Appeal which supports research into premature births.

The ostrich shoes were bought by British-South-African businessman Jeremy Martin, owner of Sterling and Hunt, the company who produced the shoes. Furthermore Mr. Martin promised Nelson Mandela an exact replica to compensate the loss.
